Out of the Meseta Yeha!

Today we are in Foncebadon 29 km away from Ponferrada. The important news is that the meseta is finally over! we left Burgos and walked 30 km to Hontanas that was the start of the mesesta super flat with wheat fields everwhere. Hontanas is a hamlet with a population of 45 people mostly old people, the pilgrims usually double or tripple the population. as usual we arrieved late at 8:30 pm. From Hontanas we walked to Ito Dela Vega another small farming town. we met with Pascal and c both from france very fun fellows Pascal is 80 and Jean Yves is 60 both carry their own packs no forwarding of packs for them. pretty inspiring when I am 80 I will have to come back and do the camino, what is great is that those guys were walking the same distances that we were with some 30KM days. From ito del vega we went to Carrion de Los Condes a very shabby town 33 KM away from ito delvega and had a room with 5 beds in it with two of us in the room hahhaa lots of space. Generally the mesta really sucked flat and boring like this post. Anyway the super exciting news is that my shoes fell apart; Keen Shoes suck they are crap. After many boring days on the meseta 6 we got to Leon a big city of 136,000 people and a 4 star hotel ahh finally a decent bed and a bath tub, a few places we stayed our feet were sticking out of the bed because it was too short. We loved Leon so we stayed for 2 days while UPS delivered my used hiking boots from Vancouver, now I have real boots never again will I buy anything made by Keen.

We left Leon via the scenic route that detours from the highway and yellow arrows were very hard to find because the towns along the highway kept redrawing and removing the arrows very frustrating and confusing. the stretch from leon to astorga was the end of the meseta and I mention that we are happy to be done with the meseta.

Today we walked mostly up a small mountain and it is a lot of fun to finally be walking uphill yeha!
