Arrived in St Jean Pie De Port

So we have finally made it to the starting point of the Camino; St Jean Pie de Port. We left on Saturday morning to Paris with a stop over in Montreal. There was not much sleep the night before, since one has to download a library and organize its ipod properly... (I had some extra excitement by loosing a filling from my tooth on Friday and getting it fixed last minute-hopefully all teeth are secured now; at least until we return!)
We spent the day sight seeing in Paris with Adibs aunt and cousins, and just crushed into bed by 8:00pm.
Today we took the train to Bayonne where we had some time to spent before we took the next train to St Jean. It is a very picturesque little town and we arrived with a wave of other pilgrims (as far as from Australia), easily recognizable for all the high tech hiking gear.
We are quite excited (even though I am still a little jet lagged) to start the trip tommorrow. Unfortunately the first day is also the hardest day, because we have to overcome 1300m elevation gain... But at least afterwards it will be relativly flat.
Luckily my list of forgotten things is very small (so far): only the sun glasses and ear plugs. I guess this should be a guarantee for super sunshine... Adib is the organizd one, nothing on his list (yet).


Nun haben wir es also geschafft, wir sind an unseren Ausgangspunkt angekommen: St Jean Pie dePort. Nach allerletzten Aufregungen (wie den Verlust einer Zahnfuellung am Freitag und der Notfallzahnreparatur) sind wir puenktlich am Samstagmorgen von Vancouver abgeflogen und nach einem Zwischenstop in Montreal puenktlich in Paris am Sonntagmorgen angekommen. Dort haben wir uns dann mit Adibs Tante und ihren Toechtern getroffen und eine sight seeing tour gemacht. wir haben es auch auf den Eiffelturm geschafft (allerdings waere ich dort fast eingeschlafen...) Um 8.00 war der Tag dann zu Ende und wir sind ins Bett gefallen. Heute frueh haben wir dann den Zug nach Bayonne genommen wo wir noch etwas Zeit hatten bis zum naechsten Zug nach St Jean. Tja, und nun sind wir hier am Point Of No Return! Wir sind mit einem ganzen Schwung Pilger angekommen (sogar aus Australien). Eine Sammlung hochmoderner Wanderausruestung! Morgen gehts dann also los: Man soll es ja eigentlich langsam angehen lassen, aber der erste Tag ist auch einer der haertesten: 1300m Hoehenunterschied sind zu ueberwinden. Danach geht es dann aber relativ flach weiter, das gibt uns dann Hoffnung... Auch habe ich diesmal relativ wenige Dinge vergessen, nur meine Sonnenbrille (dahersollten wir jetzt super Sonnenschein haben) und Ohrenstepsel. Adib ist da eher vorbildlich - noch hat er nichts festgestellt...
